Clint Eastwood sings in this movie. Unfortunately, that's not even the worst thing about it. Mr. Eastwood may, at least for a melody, a kind of, but not very far. He, Lee Marvin, Jean Seaberg and all actors turn in fine performances and has some good lines. However, with the notable exception of "they call the wind Mariah," which is beautiful, the songs are boring, unmelodic and strange (one holds dirt). They are so bad in fact that is hard to believe that they came from Lerner and Loewe, the team who wrote "My Fair Lady," or the original Broadway musical ran for over 280 performances. The film: Paint Your Wagon is not all better than it sounds. Apart from some scarily alive makeup prostitutes on the town, the DVD movie Paint Your Wagon is monochromatic palette and muddy - nobody even paint your wagon, unless it was asleep and lost. His pace is as aimless as the failure of gold miners who populate the city improvised. And for some reason, Mr. Eastwood does not use a single article of clothing that fits properly. (One longs for the poncho.) On the other hand, if you're looking for a Paint Your Wagon Comedy musical about not blithely bigamous miners living in the mud, this is the only one. |
