| I just finished watching Robert DeNiro in "Night in the City." DeNiro's classic role of "loser" Wannabe "winner" Harry is perfect Fabien especially when associated with the beautiful and talented Jessica Lange. Whenever it is that I watch on cable, and probably forever. DeNiro potrayal of a lawyer who always finished last and is determined to make a name for himself is perfect. I read another comment on this film: Night and the City and was taken to write this in defense of a movie: Night and the City that I love. I am very happy to see that Robert DeNiro has "six movies coming out in 2004. |
| OK, so we all agree that Robert DeNiro and Jessica Lange are among the biggest stars of his generation. Well, even that may play roles slightly confusing. "Night and the City" is one example. DeNiro plays a lawyer who tries to enter the boxing ... but which could lead to this? This is one of those movies whose plot could become a blur after watching. I actually thought that the Night and the City Drama most interesting is the contrast between Jessica Lange and Jack Warden, and maybe I'm the only one who even saw that. I mean, which looks like an old acerbic, and still has an aura of "King Kong" role. But otherwise, I did not see much more. I guess the DivX Movie Night and the City is worth seeing, if only once. Also with Cliff Gorman, Alan King and Eli Wallach. |
| Possibly the worst end to a movie: Night and the City I've ever seen. Great action, great character development, a sense of impending doom, and then the DVD movie Night and the City ends up inexplicably in what is supposed to be a slight moment. I do not think I felt more cheated by the end of a movie. The study director and the ball fell into what could have been a classic movie. It's like that money ran out and fell behind schedule, while .... and were told very bad ... end it. History gone to waste with a bad title (which has nothing to do with the story), a ridiculously insulting ending, poor soundtrack, and a feeling of emptiness in the gut. SPOILER SPOILER. You absolutely want this to end, no. Now I want revenge on those who wasted my time with this piece of wasted potential anticlimactic. What a shame for me and Hollywood, and you also, if you watch it. |
| There is a good night and acting in the city, but the Night and the City Drama is generally mild. I chose this DivX Movie Night and the City at the video store last week, only for Robert De Niro is in it. I have to admit, although I see a lot of movies, I do not think I had heard of this movie: Night and the City until I picked up that night, but had probably skimmed across the cover of the box while browsing in the video store . I found this Night and the City Drama film very hard to see, mainly because the character of Harry Fabian De Niro is not very nice and I tried very hard to respect or like this character, but I just felt sorry for the type and I found this depressing. However, De Niro and some of the actors are quite good from a perspective of action in some scenes. This Night and the City Drama movie gave me a 6, 10. I only recommend this DVD movie Night and the City for De Niro fans. |
| SPOILER Many people have said that this is a bad movie. I have to disagree with them. I think this is a fairly entertaining drama, and has a good ending. I especially liked the main character, Harry Fabian. If you liked the King of Comedy, then you know what I mean. I loved the King of Comedy, and I found some similarities between the main character of Rupert Pupkin and Harry Fabian. Theres a little funny that tragicomic appeal to both, are both losers without hope, and unlikable. The irony is that the very naive Rupert, has his own comedy show in the final of the King of Comedy, but Harry Fabian, a tightening of the two shots and lost all his money. This movie: Night and the City does not suffer from many flaws, such as warm characterizations, silly plot and mediocre direction, but the main character keeps the Night and the City Drama movie from being total garbage. |
| NIGHT AND THE CITY (1992) *** Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, Alan King, Cliff Gorman, Jack Warden, Barry Primus. Slice-of-low-life portrait remake 1940 Richard Widmark movie: Night and the City casts De Niro as an ambulance chasing lawyer Harry Fabian trying to score big time as a boxing promoter with the help of his lady love (Lange in an uncharacteristically unglamourous paper) and the former brother-fighter (Warden), their main nemesis (the King in a humdinger of malevolence cold as corrupt boxing mogul). Feisty and surprisingly funny script courtesy of Richard Price (a bit depending on a doctor) has its moments of ugliness and sudden downshift in tragedy. De Niro, sometimes exaggerated, is the vital force in this otherwise entertaining melodrama. |
| The only reason I saw this movie: Night and the City was filming on location, Boxers at West 4th Street in New York. (Ironically, the bar has nothing to do with "Boxer", as in pugilists). His boxers do not remember me, its predecessor in this corner, Boxers decoration is the same as that graced DAYS JIMMY regretted about this corner from 1970 to 1989 or 1990. When Jimmy was forced out by escalating rents, Boxers moved in, keeping the ceiling decorated with bricks of the same. Soon, this Night and the City film may be the only permanent record of a great neighborhood bar known as NY JIMMY DAYS.
