| Scarface is my rare 10 stars out of a possible 10 stars. Excellent Scarface Drama in every sense of the word - filmwork by the great director, (Brian DePalma) dialog great writer (Oliver Stone) and excellent by Al Pacino. Pacino is what makes this Scarface movie fascinating, in my opinion. Completely immerses himself in the character of the hard, bitter, driven by Tony Montana. We see Tony and his friend, Manny, to get a boat of Cubans to Florida - many of whom were imprisoned criminals whom Fidel Castro decided to rid himself. Tony has spent in prison, but manages to squeeze by immigration officials and to enter the country. Once here, he is determined to climb to the top level in the criminal underworld of drug dealing - no matter what it takes. Tony feels when you touch them directly and give their loyalty to the current head of the crime they are going to do well, but then Tony meets the beautiful and ultra-cool Elvira (Michelle Pfeiffer), the girlfriend of his boss, and he must obedient to make a decision between loyalty to the head of the crime and their desire to possess Elvira. Tony is smart and sometimes just luck, in several clashes in place until the ladder gangster, but Tony has scruples. It is a combination of his desire to control others, and one of its softer moments, leading to the final, climactic scenes of the film. |
