| Dune is a luxurious recreation of one of the best science fiction novels ever written and has a great cast, wonderful costumes and sets and a fantastic plot. Why then is so critical? Well, I fell prey to the dune that most destructive forces - the editing process in Hollywood. Lynch spent three years of this DVD movie Dune produced enough content for a Dune film that would have been six (yes six) hours, which of course is unacceptable. To make the DVD film Dune more suitable for the general public the film: Dune was reduced to little more than two hours and most of the other footage was destroyed. Arrrggghhh! Therefore, most science fiction movie: Dune ever made ever seen and all that remains is an abbreviated version. Imagine the Star Wars trilogy reduce to a single DVD film Dune of two hours, or what the wind was reduced to 90 minutes! Anyway, you see my point. The two failures of this film: the ending and smashed through the often-disjointed plot together with the recorded voice of claims were the result of slash and burn politics of the Dune film suffered. So, when you see this Dune Fantasy film again, instead of thinking "that just does not work" instead of thinking what could have been! |
| More people should be exposed to this movie. May have been a disaster at the box office in its day, but there is an audience for this Dune Fantasy and in a team. Herbert's vision is so unique, complete and detailed as a director could be expected, and this movie: Dune does a good job of putting the story on screen. If you like the movie, be sure to read the book. |
| I can understand the life of the outrageous number of positive comments from this horrible movie. I've never been a subscriber to the "best book" cliché, but if you had read Frank Herbert of Dune, and enjoyed it ... stay as far away from this Dune film as possible. It's one thing to take some creative license in a book into film, but to remove elements of the plot and the chance to launch new ones to cover up (weirding modules? What the hell?), Which is just ruin history. Bene Gesserit-raising plan is mentioned once in the beginning of the movie, and then disappear into history. Baron Harkonnen is just some bad, crazy fat (not negligible, but the wily as Paul's grandfather in the novel). The fight between Paul and his cousin Rautha andalusia Feyd-final is just useless filler, with no connection to the plot. Any part of the story that befriends Paul, trust, and becomes the leader of the Frema becomes "it is the prophecy OK we will follow lol. Hell half of the Dune movie makes no sense unless you have read the novel, then it is slaughtered anyway. Add to the mix Horrible ACT (I do not know what he congratulated the people who were thinking), and terrible special effects (the standard 80 years I guess) and you get a pile of steaming garbage. I suppose it can not comment on those who saw the Dune Fantasy movie before the book, but even then, this is not a pleasant film. Maybe if you're really in a state of drunkenness. Maybe. |
