Surreal character study focusing on the friendship between two male hustlers, Mike and Scott, in Portland, Oregon. They live on the streets, do drugs, and sell themselves to men and women. Mike is quiet, gay and suffers from narcolepsy. Abandoned as a child, he is obsessed with finding his long-lost mother. Scott is the rebellious son of a high-ranking family, who lives this life mostly to embarrass his father. Mike is in love with Scott, who still maintains he is straight and insists that his wild lifestyle on the streets is only temporary. Together, they embark on a quest to find Mike's mother, traveling from Portland to Idaho to Italy, with Scott picking up a beautiful girl along the way.

Mike (River Phoenix) has narcolepsy, and when you feel super-stressed suffers so smart cataplexy attacks, ie dream emotions caused by the increase. His friend, lover and companion for male prostitute, Scott (Keanu Reeves), has a rich father who will leave a very strong when he turns 21. These two characters are the main focus of "My Private Idaho", which deals with common and uncommon subjects like home, sexual identity and love. Van Sant throws in the language of Shakespeare directly plagiarized some of Henry IV and a non-linear narrative and you have a very pretty surreal indie film. The credits of this DVD film My Own Private Idaho is that director and star, River Phoenix, whose moving and understated performance lifts the DVD film My Own Private Idaho above the trash that could have easily been another director or actor's hands. Van Sant uses symbols to represent the emotional states and their use of special effects is limited and effective. There are some really sincere dialogue in this film, especially so that the camp-fire scene. This My Own Private Idaho film can be irritating and sometimes the dialogue of Shakespeare does not work (and it's okay to admit that a My Own Private Idaho movie like this is almost perfect judgments) and Reeves is sometimes a bit rigid. The movie: My Own Private Idaho is redeemed by its most bitter-sweet and funny ending of the opening titles. I will not address all issues in this film: My Own Private Idaho because I have no energy. Just appreciate the DVD movie My Own Private Idaho for what it is and have a good day. :)

Gus Van Sant, actually one of the best managers in this century, has a vision of the eye that allows audiences to see life in another / different way. In this case, takes Henry IV, usually overshadowed by Henry V, and turns it into a heart wrenching story that modern audiences can appreciate. Visual images that are layered and in our eyes and dance moves are as carefully delineated. The use of lesser known actors is refreshing, and the chemistry between Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix is overwhelming. This is a must see for any lover of independent films, for anyone tired of predictable plots, or for anyone who wants to open his heart vulnerable to the characters and love them. This My Own Private Idaho Drama movie involved.

Gus Van Sant's talent as a filmmaker with a unique vision come to this wonderful film. It is a remarkable achievement in all departments. The images are impressive, the soundtrack and excellent acting in the place. River Phoenix is revealed here as an adult actor of great promise and his early death adds to the desperation of the character played. Unfortunately, this pinnacle of Van Sant to go very slowly but surely down to the mainstream "Good Will Hunting" and evil "Psycho" remake. Not only can not miss, is one to watch and watch again
